今回の Topic は、Official Guide to the TOEFL の Independent Essay 第25問です。

1. Topic           

     People do many different things to stay healthy.  What do you do for good health?  Use specific examples and reasons to support your answer.

2. Struture

a) Thesis Statement (Introduction)                

     I make a point of getting moderate exercise, taking balanced diet, and keeping early hours with adequate sleep to maintain good health.

b) Body の部分を構成する3つの Paragraph の Main Idea は、

第1 Paragraph ウォーキングやストレッチングの様な適度な運動を毎日行うように心がけている

第2 Paragraph 穀類、肉類、野菜、乳製品等のバランスのとれた食事を摂るようにしている

第3 Paragraph 早寝早起きをし、十分な睡眠を取るようにしている

 

 3. Sample

     I make a point of getting moderate exercise, taking balanced diet, and keeping early hours with adequate sleep to maintain good health.                         

     To begin with, I make a point of getting moderate exercise, such as walking and stretching, every day.  It is often pointed out that we have become less active because technology has made our lives easier.  As a result, we have fewer chances to be physically active not only at work but at daily life, which, many experts say, has been compromising our health.  However, research shows that regular moderate exercise can reduce our risk of major illness, such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and cancer, up to 50 per cent.                                                

     In addition, I consciously have well-balanced diet composed of grain, meat, vegetables and dairy foods.  As our lives become easier, many adults in developed countries become overweight or obese.  In order for us to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight, we need to eat a wide variety of foods in the right proportions and consume the right amount of food and drink.  Therefore, balanced diet is one of the crucial parts of staying healthy.                                                                                                                           

     Finally, I have made every effort to keep early hours and have adequate sleep as much as possible.  As the proverb goes, those who keep early hours will live long.  Also, scientific evidence shows that getting enough quality sleep has many benefits, including protecting our physical and mental health, quality of life and personal safety.  Thus, keeping early hours with adequate quality sleep helps us lead a healthy life.                                          

     It is true that in some cases, it’s easier said than done to even carry out these small pledges.  However, I can manage to do three things I mentioned above to stay healthy.
