In my opinion, the important qualities for a good supervisor are positive attitude towards taking the initiative, assuming responsibilities, and encouraging the team members to develop their strength.

To begin with, a good supervisor should be a role model for the team members he or she leads. In other words, the leader should always take initiative.  In today’s fast changing world, every organization in the public or private sector has been facing serious challenges.  And every manager is tasked with improving performance in the tight schedule.  Under such circumstances, subordinates wouldn’t follow the leader if he or she just ordered what they should do without taking any action.

In addition, in order to be qualified as a good leader, the leader has to assume responsibility when the team fails to achieve goals or when the subordinates make serious mistakes.  In the organizations, the success of the department is credited to the manager.  Conversely, the manager should take responsibility for whatever the subordinates do.  Then they would do their best to achieve goals without the fear of being severely reprimanded.

Finally, any good leader could make the most of the potential of the subordinates with a long-term vision.  Every member has some aspects that should be improved, as well as specialty and potential.  .If the leader could give them constructive feedback not only for making up weakness but also for developing strength, they would become crucial asset for the team.  With these highly motivated subordinates, the leader could aggregate collective power of the team members.

It is true that highly qualified supervisors are seldom seen in most organizations.  However, to be a good leader, he or she should foster and develop the three qualities I mentioned above.
