今回の Topic は、Official Guide to the TOEFL の Independent Essay 第２８問です。

１. Topic          

     Some people prefer to eat at food stands or restaurants.  Other people prefer to prepare and eat food at home.   Which do you prefer?  Use specific examples and reasons to support your answer.

２. Struture

a) Thesis Statement (Introduction)                

    I prefer to eat out at food stands or restaurants rather than prepare and eat at home, in terms of taste, diversity, and saving time and energy.

b) Body の部分を構成する３つの Paragraph の Main Idea は、

第１ Paragraph　外食の方が、自宅で調理して食べるよりも美味しい料理を味わえる

第２ Paragraph　外食の場合、自分で料理するよりも予算や機会に応じて多種多様な料理を食べることが可能

第３ Paragraph　外食の場合、料理の準備、及び後片づけに必要な時間とエネルギーを節約できる

 

 ３. Sample

     I prefer to eat out at food stands or restaurants rather than prepare and eat at home, in terms of taste, diversity, and saving time and energy.                            

     To begin with, I would like to go out to restaurants rather than prepare and eat food at home because I could have much tastier cuisine cooked by professional chefs.  Delicious foods make our life more fulfilling.  However, I, like many other people, am not good at cooking food and as a result, dishes I prepared for myself are not tasty and also don’t look good.  Even dishes served at food stands maintain certain standards which I could not catch up with.                                                       

     In addition, I would like to have diverse dishes or foods, which are not prepared at home.  By dining out, I have many choices to eat according to both budget and occasions.  For example, in special occasions, I would like dine at fancy restaurants, be they French, Chinese, Indian or Japanese, with my family or friends.  Atmosphere and services of such restaurants are exceptional.  Also, there are wide varieties of foods at food stands with very reasonable prices.                                                                                                                                  

     Finally, I could save time to prepare foods, to clear the table, and to wash the dishes by eating out.  It takes much time and energy to prepare foods.  I have to go to supermarkets to buy groceries and seasoning before setting on preparing foods.  If I spared time, I would end up preparing and eating exactly the same food almost every day.  In any case, it takes time to wash the dishes.  Therefore, in order for me to save my precious time and energy, I would like to go out to eat either at food stands or restaurants.                                            

     It is true that it might take much more money to eat out than prepare and eat food at home.  However, because of the three reasons I mentioned above, I prefer to eat out at food stands or restaurants..
