I agree with the statement that infectious diseases will become a bigger problem in the coming decades because of globalization, emerging of new and insidious diseases, and growing economic inequality.

To begin with, thanks to globalization, it has become difficult to contain infectious diseases in certain countries or certain regions.  Compared with the end of the twentieth century, people have got used to traveling or migrating worldwide.  Also, prolonged civil wars and regional conflicts in some regions have made civilians, especially women and children, forced to leave their hometowns.  Those people are usually vulnerable to infectious diseases.  As a result, implementation of effective measures will become beyond control.

In addition, new and previously undetected infectious diseases have continuously emerged, which has made it impossible for us to take effective preventive measures.  Although medical science has made a great progress and new drugs have become available, it takes huge amount of time, energy and money to address these new and insidious diseases.  Moreover, even if newly developed drugs were released, many people in developing countries would not afford to buy them due to financial reasons.

Finally, the growing economic inequality has prevented effective measures to combat infectious diseases from achieving promising goals.  According to the United Nations, there are still around 730 million people who live in extreme poverty.  In most cases, those people lack access to sanitation, clean water and medical treatment.  As infectious diseases spread beyond the national boarders, those people tend to be the first victims of the diseases.

It is true that international organizations, such as WHO has played a significant role to prevent, confine and eradicate infectious diseases.   However, due to the three reasons I mentioned above, space exploration is worth the cost.
