2. Structure

The share of electricity from nuclear plant has been declined steadily due to the negative impact that Fukushima nuclear disaster has had on nuclear energy.

3. Sample

The share of electricity from nuclear plant has been declined steadily due to the negative impact that Fukushima nuclear disaster has had on nuclear energy.

To begin with, after Fukushima nuclear accident that happened in 2011, there’s growing consensus that the troubles that nuclear power plants cause could go out of control.  Although, numerous preventive measures are implemented at nuclear power plants, there would always be “unexpected” or “unprecedented” incidents.  Therefore, it is virtually impossible to develop effective fail-safe measures.  What is worse, if nuclear power plants were to be hit by huge natural disasters such as tsunami, earthquake, or typhoon, the tragic consequences would be enormous.

In addition, although many of the world’s nuclear reactors are fast approaching the end of their viable lifespan, the Fukushima disaster has made it difficult for operators of nuclear reactors to extend the lifespan because of the rising costs.  After the two previous tragic nuclear power plant accidents, Three Mile Island nuclear reactor accident in 1979 in the United States, and Chernobyl disaster in 1986 in the former Soviet Union, Fukushima nuclear disaster caused a wholesale reassessment of nuclear safety regulations, significantly increasing the cost of nuclear power plants.

Finally, other clean and renewable energies, such as solar and wind energy have begun to replace nuclear energy.  It is often said that one of the benefits of nuclear energy is that it doesn’t emit greenhouse gas, which has caused global warming.  However, costs for generating wind and solar energy, which are also clean and renewable, has been decreasing dramatically.  Moreover, these two energies wouldn’t bring about serious disasters.  As a result, both of the two energies have become feasible and promising alternative to nuclear energy.

In conclusion, as I mentioned above, depending on nuclear energy has declined steadily over the last decade.

To be continued.
